Hey there! I'm so glad you're here! I'm Monica Brown, a wedding photographer from Indianapolis who loves to celebrate couples & photographers. I hope you enjoy browsing through recent work, advice for brides & photographers, and taking a peek into our personal life!
Life with a newborn is a magical, messy, sweet, tiring, and foggy time of life!! It’s one of the BEST times and I can’t emphasize enough how much you’ll love having it documented because babies do not keep for long! Here’s 5 tips for your in home newborn session:
Rocking your maternity clothes or a loose fitting dress is 1000% appropriate! Most mamas wear their maternity jeans with a loose fitting blouse or a casual dress while dads are in jeans and a casual shirt or button down. Bare feet or socks as most common but if you love wearing shoes, go for it! There’s no right or wrong when it comes to attire!! For baby, I recommend 1-2 onesies that you love and a swaddle.
Instead, focus on 1-3 areas to have tidy (no need to go all out with deep clean either!). Some ideas: the nursery, your bedroom, & an area where you hang out as a family often. Bonus points if one or all of the areas has windows for natural light! Depending on the weather, we can also pop outside for a few outdoor pictures. Zero judgement here for any type of mess, trust me, I get it!!
Yup, mama & dada (and any siblings) need sustenance too!! A full tummy puts everyone in a better mood. I recommend nursing or bottle feeding right before your session. Don’t stress at all if baby gets hungry during your session, we’ll still make the most of it!
I recommend this because it will make for a great backdrop to all those fresh baby details (i.e. the precious toes, fingers, ears, etc.). Baby will likely be wrapped in said swaddle for a few pictures as well!
I know being in front of a camera can feel daunting (this is my profession and I still get nervous when I get behind the camera!), but I promise it’s going to be fun, relaxed, and focused on all the sweet baby snuggles! I’ll direct you for a few poses while letting you naturally interact. I can’t wait to document this precious season of your life!!
Cheers,
Monica
