Hey there! I'm so glad you're here! I'm Monica Brown, a wedding photographer from Indianapolis who loves to celebrate couples & photographers. I hope you enjoy browsing through recent work, advice for brides & photographers, and taking a peek into our personal life!
Drew and I are so excited to share that…
We’ve known for quite some time now that we’d be moving and if you’ve seen us in person the last 6 months, this news is no surprise to you! We didn’t want to share it online until it was “officially official” (aka housing and jobs were all lined up). We have felt a full range of emotions for/through this move, but we’re mostly just really excited for this upcoming transition! God has been providing in some fun and unexpected ways during this season of life. It has been SOO growing for me! I’ve learned a ton about trust & faith…in God and in my husband 🙂
Drew grew up in Oxford and I moved here when I came as a freshman for undergrad at Miami. It’s here where I started actually living out my faith and where I learned so much about myself. It’s where I met some of my very best friends (Drew included!). A month after graduation, Drew and I got married and a month after that, Drew started his masters program at Miami.
Oxford has been home for the past 6 years. I love this town, this school, our church, and all the incredible people we’ve met during our time here. It’s where we started our marriage and our first home (you can see it in the fall and winter). It’s where I’ve had TONS of fun and experienced all things good. And where I’ve experienced my lowest of lows. It feels really bittersweet to leave a place where so much life has happened. But ready or not, Indy here we come! We’ve gotten quite a few questions over the past few months when telling people in person so I wanted to share a little bit more about our why and what it means for our business:
For a couple of reasons! We’ve put A LOT of prayer, thought, and talking with friends and family into this decision, but here’s the main why behind our move: 1. We want to! It’s a natural transition now that Drew is done with school and we’re excited for all the opportunities/convenience that comes with a bigger city (e.g. Target being 10 minutes away verses 45 minutes- PRAISE). For both Drew and my career paths, a larger city just makes sense as we dream about how our careers will evolve. When we began praying about moving, we knew we wanted to be within 2 hours of both of our immediate families. My parents are in Dayton (2 hours exactly) and my brothers are in the Columbus area. Drew’s parents are actually moving to Indy in July this year and his siblings are scattered around Indiana and Ohio.
We are officially moving into our new house May 21s…right after Drew graduates with his masters from Miami. Wooh hoo!
It really won’t change much! We LOVE to travel for weddings and engagements, especially international weddings, so we are flexible to go anywhere. Overtime we will naturally start shooting more weddings in the Indianapolis area, but our home base for the last 24 years has been in the Dayton, Cincinnati, and Columbus areas in Ohio so we will definitely continue to shoot there! Besides, my parents live in Dayton and my brothers live in Columbus so it just gives us another excuse to consistently visit them 🙂
My creative community will change a little through this move. I am so so so sad to be leaving the Dayton Tuesday Together chapter (through Rising Tide Society– if you’re a creative I cannot recommend getting plugged into your location chapter enough!!) because I have made so many sweet and valuable friendships with creatives in the local Dayton industry. They won’t be too far though so I’m excited to continue those friendships over the years and make new ones as we transition to Indy!
So, there’s the scoop on our upcoming move! Stay tuned for more exciting news that I’ll be sharing soon about our business! Thanks for being on this wild ride with us 🙂
XOXO,
Mon
Good for you! Keep on crushing it, Brown Fam!
