Wegerzyn Gardens Metro Park Engagement Session | Matt & Krista

I’ve known Matt since I was a wee little lad.

The VonderBrink family has been in my life for really as long as I can remember. Matt and his twin Ellen are the same age as my oldest brother Aaron, Matt’s younger sister Sarah is the same age as my other brother Dan, and Matt’s youngest sister Annie is the same age as me! Needless to say, it was inevitable for our families to become friends. We all went to the same elementary, middle (minus Annie and I for middle school) and high school and attended the same pool.

When we were really young Annie and I used to hide in the pool bathroom to avoid swim practice, we danced for 12 years together, and played high school field hockey together. I remember when all the guys would come over and have water gun fights in our backyard. Or when we’d do the family camp outs at the community pool we were all members of. We’ve had a lot of great memories over the years! So when Annie texted me giving me a heads up that Matt and Krista would be in touch, I was SO EXCITED! And I still am!

I’ve loved getting to know these two better, especially during their engagement session.

It was really fun when they arrived, Krista and I both agreed that we felt like we already knew each other. During their engagement session, Matt and Krista were such naturals at posing, really easy to talk to, and fun to joke with. We already have a few jokes that I can crack on their wedding day (i.e. there was a bush that looked like the poop emoji and we decided they should get a picture in front of it. We probably laughed a little too long about that haha).

One of my favorite parts of our time together was when we were leaving. Matt said something along the lines of, “You know Monica, I’m going to be honest. I wasn’t looking forward to this. At all. But now that we’ve done it, I’m so glad we chose you as our photographer and it makes me so much more excited for our actual wedding day.”

That was the BIGGEST compliment! I was feeling on cloud nine after that!! My hope and prayer is that all our couples would feel comfortable, safe and have a lot of fun together during our time. And I’m so glad Matt and Krista did! Engagement sessions are some of my favorites because its such a relaxed atmosphere where we can really get to know each other, you learn what to expect from me, and you can leave feeling excited for your big day trusting even more that you’re in good hands. Their September wedding day will be here before we know it!! To hold you over until then, enjoy of few from their engagement session 😉

Thank you for the inspiration! My daughter is also about there, and I love all your suggestions! I’m going to borrow everything! I’m curious–exactly how old is Poppy. Have you found a “magic age” for all your kids?
